When should I begin filing taxes?

You should begin to fill out your taxes once you know all of your income and expenses for the previous year. Under most circumstances this information should be sent to you no later then January 31st. If you have the information earlier then this you can begin the process sooner.

You are required to file your taxes by April 15th and as such you should be sure to contact anyone who owes you information documents such as W-2, 1099, or 1098 if you don't have them by the end of the first week of February.

It is always to get the ball rolling earlier rather than later when it comes to taxes. Waiting until the last minute can cause a load of unnecessary stress and complications that can easily be avoided.
